The floods in Lae Mid Eighties
Hello all
I have been asked to share my experience of being in a natural disaster for a year five class in Melbourne. I thought the Lae Floods probably are the easiest to talk about but I was wondering if anyone has any photos of that time. If you do, I would love it if you could send them to me at caroleatsaunders@yahoo.com. Thanks! Carole |

floods
I remember the river washed away 1.5 cricket pitches, also riding tyre tubes down the raging currents. Such madness now that I am older and less reckless.

Hi Carole,
This is David Tupou. Sorry I do not have any photos of the flood, however I do recall it. And yes as Duncan said, a big chunk of the sports ground was washed away than. You may wonder who I am. Well, I am Nane Tupou's younger brother. We use to rep LIHS in sports - Athletics, Soccer, Softball etc. 1982-'85. Some of my classmates in which I recall were Terence Delacruz, Andre Shedlock (his sister was Anita - (they were Maori), David Edwards, Jodie Zadow, Cynthia Tait, Kubulan Simione. |

I also remember that the bridge which connected Unitech to Lae City was washed aways as a result we had forced holidays. Then for a few weeks we had to go the long way.
