Question Moving to Lae

I have just been made a job offer to move to PNG, and its in Lae (I currently live in the UK but am Italian/South African). I have read a bit about Moresby and understand it to be rather violent, but have nothing about Lae. Could anyone tell me about living there - in terms of personal safety and social life as well, as I will be on my own to start with.

THanks!

Hi bear,

Port Moresby is not really as bad as what you read.... I live in Port Moresby and most people do have quite a good life.

Lae is probably even more relaxed and the expatriate community is pretty friendly too

good luck on your move

Angry mosquitoes?

Another question I have is about mosquitoes - I hate the things and they regularlydevour me here in Europe in summer, regardlessof the amount of repellent I use. Am I to expect an instant death by mozzie out there or is it not too bad???

Thanks!

I think mosquitoes here in PNG is not that bad unless you take malaria tablets and or repellents and if your heading to LAE, its always wet seasons there so make sure you take your malaria medicaton just to be safe.....

Cheers
Janelle

Mate, trust me. Lae is one of my favourite places to live. How can a couple of 100,000 morobeans be wrong

As for mosquitoes, don't worry they don't drink much. I prefer Lae cos although its a good sized town, once you get to know people, you'll find their very friendly.

Janelle, with that sort of approach to life in general, (and Lae) I can see life will be good to you. You are a true champion..........
