Hey Scott - shouldn't you have at least asked O'Brien and I whether we wanted photos of us as gormless 10 year olds published on the web?? Trust all the Martins are well - say hello to Craig for me.

Well hello Pete, long time no see. I think the last time would have been Craig's wedding.

And where is Johnny O'Brien these days?

Gormless you say, I think not. No we were cus, damm cus.

Check out the Bulae team, now that was a pathetic bunch. And who was the scrawny kid fourth from the left, the one we used to call "can't tackle, can't run". I wonder what he looks like now? I wonder if he still has that long thick hair?

Last saw John in Europe about 1998. He's married with two children and living in Cambridge. Shared a house with him in Sydney for a couple of years in the early 90's - he's still as mad as a cut snake.

Re league: I recall adopting the "throw it over your head anywhere" strategy as soon as it looked like I might be tackled.

I haven't been in contact with John since 1998 but I'll try and find an address/telephone number for him

Scott Martin,

Hi there - it's amazing how you can recognise faces almost 40 years on. As soon as I saw your posted Prep-class school pic I immediately recognised the girl holding the sign - Denise Pech. I saw Denise (my fathers cousin) only a few months back.

To true....just look at all the trees in this old photograph of Lae......last time I was over there all the trees down near the old TAA hangar (later Air Niugini) area, have all been cut down.

I can still remember arriving in Lae in 1972 and the beauty of the gardens at the airport and botantical gardens etc.

Everyone had such pride in the city and at that time it was quite safe to take your kids to the gardens and just stroll around.

I can still remember in shock at being told a tourist had their camera stolen whilst walking through the Gardens....that sort of thing had not happened before....from memory I think it was around 1986 !

Yep, been around awhile....

Have managed to scan a few more pictures of Lae covering the period 1966 to 1973.

I trust they will bring back fond memories for all former Lae residents.

First picture is of the Lae Markets taken during the late 1960's.
